As a result of the adoption of the 2012 Life Safety Code®, proposed changes to Environment of Care and Life Safety standards were presented by George Mills at the ASHE Annual Conference in Denver.  These proposals are being vetted by CMS, and are not final at this time.

Accordingly, the exact language has not yet been determined, and these proposals are listed here with a description of the topic of the proposed change.  This is intended to be a preview only and a “heads up” for what is to come.

The CMS K-tags are also undergoing changes.  That document has been 29 pages long, and will expand to 48 pages based on the 2012 Life Safety Code®.  Additional new elements of performance are anticipated as a result.

Typically The Joint Commission publishes new standards for the coming year in October.  To accommodate all of these changes and the associated CMS review, the 2017 standards are not expected to be published until after the first of the year.

We will keep you posted as more details become available.  Please contact us with your questions so we can help you during this time of change!
