NFPA 3000, Standard for an Active Shooter/Hostile Event Response (ASHER), was published in April 2018. It was issued as a provisional standard (PS), which means that the development of this standard was expedited due to the increased frequency and severity of active shooter events since 1999 and the fact that there was no standard program in existence.

In late September 2017, The Joint Commission released 87 pages of standards changes in the Environment of Care and Life Safety chapters. That’s a lot of changes! The 2012 editions of NFPA 101, the Life Safety Code® and NFPA 99, the Health Care Facilities Code, have been adopted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The adoption will be published in the Federal Register on Wednesday, May 4, with an adoption date of July 5, 2016.
