TOM STEWART

Tom joined MSL in 2014. He has forty years experience in healthcare facilities management including responsibilities for plant operations, design and construction, energy management, clinical engineering, and safety management.

Prior to joining MSL, Tom was the Corporate Director of Facilities for Southern Illinois Healthcare - a three hospital system. One of the hospitals, Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, was one of the first hospitals in the United States to receive the Energy Star award and Tom has been active in promoting energy management throughout his career. Since founding the Southern Illinois Chapter for Healthcare Engineering in 1980, Tom has been active in promoting the field of healthcare facilities management. He was involved in the development of the Midwest Healthcare Engineering Conference and served as vice-chair of this event for many years. He serves as a faculty member for the American Society of Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association and teaches the Certified Healthcare Facility Management (CHFM) exam review course.

Tom has served on various ASHE committees including Education, Personal Recognition and Career Development, and Healthcare Construction Certification. He served on the Board of the AHA Certification center representing the Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) professionals and served on the ASHE Board of Directors representing ASHE members in Region 5 (Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois). Tom was the recipient of the ASHE Crystal Eagle award in 2011 for his contribution to ASHE and the health care engineering and facility management industry.

Tom received a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Electronics from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and received a Masters in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Tom has earned the designations of Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM), Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC), and has obtained Senior level in the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (SASHE).
