Ron Smidt
Senior Consultant

Ron Smidt joined MSL in 2019 serving as a Senior Consultant. He has over 35 years of experience in Facilities Management, with 21 years as an executive at a large hospital system. In leadership and executive roles, he has been responsible for facilities strategic planning, facilities management organizational structure, energy and sustainability strategy, safety, and compliance. One of Ron’s main focuses has been how to use reinvestment capital to drive down operating costs.

Ron is active in code advocacy representing the American Society for Health Care Engineering (ASHE) on the Emergency Power Technical Committee (EPS-AAA) and the Electrical Systems Technical Committee (HEA-ELS). He also represents the NFPA HealthCare Section on the Piping Systems Technical Committee (HEA-PIP). He is a life member of ASHE and is a member of the National Society for Professional Engineers (NSPE).

Atrium Health (formerly Carolinas HealthCare System) received national recognition under Ron’s leadership as a two-time recipient of the Energy Star Partner of the Year award, over 15 ASHE Energy to Care awards, and recognition for technology innovation from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Ron received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the states of Alabama and North Carolina.
